suggestion on upper Pol Sci course

Hi guy,

I am a transfer Mechanical Engineering student @ Cal. I need suggestion from those who have taken Political Science courses C135, 106A, and 149E before. For POL SCI C135, even though it doesn't have any prerequisite, is it true that you need Econ 1 to do well in the class? Do they use lot of Econ 1 material in POL SCI C135?

The three course offer @ coming Fall
1. POLITICAL SCIENCE 106A
American Politics: Campaign Strategy - Media
Prof. SCHNUR

POLITICAL SCIENCE C135
Game Theory in the Social Sciences
Prof. POWELL

POLITICAL SCIENCE 149E
Special Topics in Area Studies
Prof. ZOOK

Little about me: I am an international student who need a upper series humanities course for graduation. The thing is my English is not that well compare to those Political Science major students. Therefore, I need a course with minimum writing as possible. Unfortunately, I didn't do much lower division humanities back at CC (only art history, political science are transferable).

Unless you’re a senior or have early registration, you’ve no chance at getting into 106A.

Add to that, if you aren’t a PS major, you won’t be able to register for PS classes until phase two. It’s likely that all upp div PS courses will be filled by that time.

For writing, most PS courses have at least two papers and most exams are solely essay based.

i took 149E and C135 before… and I would say C135 is much much easier :)

149E is a lot of writing (includes 10-20pg research paper + 2x 5pg papers), no tests or finals though. People are super passionate in that class, so it’s actually pretty difficult to do well. Lectures are required :(

C135 is 1 midterm + 1 final. Easy to get into. Most people in that class freak over 1+1=2 cause it is an equation =__= No class attendance required, concepts are easy enough to figure out yourself. Gives problems sets that are clones of tests :)

106a… you have no chance of getting in. Tried for 3 semesters straight as a DECLARED PS major… xD
