Suggestions for class of 2012

How was the Inn at Great Neck? We stayed at the Andrew, very close to train, bus and grocery store. I wish the lobby had been larger. Trying not to run ourselves to death it was hard staying in the room. The employees were all very nice.

The Inn at Great Neck is very nice. It is also centrally located - close to everything. We walked over to the train station, that mall across the way and then down to that awesome Mexican restaurant (Panchos?). Bruces, which is where we had our "last" breakfast, is across the street. What a lovely little town Great Neck is! But The Inn was very clean and comfortable and the rooms were spacious. There is a restaurant downstairs and a quaint little cocktail lounge. It is pricey ($200) - but you pay for what you get sometimes. I recommend it!

We, too, stayed at The Inn at Great Neck. I don't think it deserves the status of one of World's Leading Small Luxury Hotels (we've stayed in others that are part of that chain.) However, the location and service were both great. The free DVD movies is a nice touch. My disappointment was having requested a "non-smoking" room and since none was available, we got a "smoking" room that was being fumigated by a special machine that ran constantly during our stay. Very unpleasant. I walked over to CVS and bought a spray bottle of Febreeze! Easy walk to Bruce's! I highly recommend "La Rotonda" Brick Oven Pizza and Italian restaurant at #8 Bond Street, across from station in Great Neck (easy walk from Inn) great fresh food and good service. We went following lunch muster on indoc day and it was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a great meal.

We stayed at the Andrew and while it was ok, I would not say it was a great hotel. Even with a remodeling, it's getting a bit long in the tooth. The staff was friendly however. We had to switch rooms because of no running water in the shower/tub. What the Andrew has going for it is its proximity to the shops in Great Neck and the train station. But that's about it. We're going to try another hotel for parent's weekend.

Wish I could claim this idea, but it was SUZANNEGRA's. I just wanted to get it on this thread for next year because it is an excellent suggestion: Preprint questions for your plebe candidate with Yes/No answers so that all they have to do is circle their answers. We have so many questions and they do not have much time to write. (Even if they do, it seems they choose to write their girlfriends!) Mailing them a preprinted list of questions with easy-just circle one-answer selection is a quick and efficient way to get answers to all of those questions! I also included a self-addressed stamped envelope. Thank you suzannegra.

My pleasure. Guess I learned something from the Navy with my older son LOL!

A few months before indoc began, we put a 3-ring binder together to hold all of the Academy stuff we needed to learn. With tabbed dividers we sectioned it into Calendar, USMMA Guide ("What Do You Mean He Doesn't Have Telephone Privileges??? This is His MOTHER!!!"), Parents Weekend and Directions/Hotels/Restaurants. As more information comes in, we can add to it. It's good reading for fledgling parents (as long as that old pollen doesn't prevent you from being able to see straight).
