suggestions for lower reaches (help!)

Can anyone please recommend lower reach/higer match schools for me? My stats and current college list are below.

SAT I: 670 M 700 V
SAT II: 630 IIC 660 Wri 750 US

top 10 %

4.1/4.5 GPA UW

6 AP's this year

EC's are average
hopefully my recs and essay will be good.

I am Hispanic from a poor city.

I will bring my SAT Math to over 700. My SAT IIC will be over 720. I doubt my writing will get over 700, but I will try. I'm also going to take the sat II physics.

I would like to double major in engineering and (economics or business), and go somewhere in the northeast.

Here's my current list

MIT ------------------->super reach
UPENN ----------------->super reach
Carnegie Mellon ----------> reach
Northwestern -------------> reach
U-maryland----------------> match
USC---------------->match
Texas-Austin-------->match
UMASS-Amherst ---->safety
Purdue-West Lafayette------safety

In the northeast, look also at the University of Rochester, Case-Western Reserve, RPI, Lehigh and Lafayette, maybe Northeastern. Your GPA and SAT scores are pretty good, and being a Hispanic ought to get you more consideration, with the combination possibly qualifying you for substantial merit aid.

MIT and Penn are super reaches for anyone; apply if you like (but not ED) but don't get high hopes.

thanks, i finally got a reply

do you really think that URoch, RPI, Lehigh and Northeastern are reaches for me?

In my uninformed, humble opinion:

RPI - match
Rochester - match
Lehigh - match
Northeastern - safety

Lower reaches/Higher Matches:

Swathmore - lower reach
Michigan - higher match
UVA - higher match
Union - match/safety
Cornell - reach

I think that you will get a huge boost in admissions from the facts that you are from a poor community and that you are an under-represented minority. Your gpa and test scores illustrate that you belong and could academically thrive at any of these institutions.

Agree with icemaker...consider UVA and Michigan.....what about Penn State?

Totally agree with UMich and UVA. Also, look at Vassar if you would go to a LAC. Also, Cornell is a matchy reach, you might get in ED.
