Suggestions for Safeties

This student is a junior in HS, so not likely an ED applicant to Swat.

I don’t really understand a first-semester junior having a rigid college list already (including plans for an ED application). A lot can change between now and a year from now. I’d use the time to explore the financial issues as others have suggested, continue to do your best in school, and research a wider range of colleges. If you want to go to med school, and money is an issue, you ought to look at colleges where your stats are at the upper end of the range and you might be offered merit awards. Going to a less-competitive school might also help you get the GPA you will need to be a strong applicant to med school. Remember that GPA is almost everything in med school admissions (along with MCAT scores). Having a “dream” school where you are at the low end of the score range might not make the most sense for your larger dream of becoming a doctor. Good luck.

Thank you again everybody!

@Sally I will look into more schools where a high GPA is realistic

Also an update, I got my ACT back. My score was a 27 with an 8 on the essay. I hope to increase this score to a 29-30, but now I have at least a decent score…
