Hi everyone, i am having a hard time on choosing which college to go to. May you guys please list out the pros and cons for me ? or how is it to be a student from these schools?
little background about me:
so i did pretty good in 9th and 10th grade. However in 11th grade i messed up, i had this problem dealing with minor depression( i guess is more like a junioritis? idk anyways it hit me hard) i was taking 2 aps at that time and i didnt do so good so over all in junior year i got 3 Cs which affected my college admission… pretty bad. I regret it so much. now i am a senior , doing pretty good. All A’s with 3 Aps. Long story short . I didnt get into UCs that i thought i would so now i am stuck. My family dont really want me go to a CC but i guess if i insisted, it will be one of the option.
My intended major is chem but i am not sure is that what i really want. I like psych but my fam dont like cuz they dont think i can make a living with that major. I actually wanna do forensic, working in a lab? but i guess chem will be a better option cuz i will have more choices later for jobs? (chem, forensic, criminology/ law)
Schools that i got into :
UC Merced
UCR(waitlisted, but appealed)
UCSC (Rejected, appealed)
States: Fresno, CSUF, Sonoma state,SJSU, Cal poly Pomona (waitlisted, idk why i put animal sci but some how i did)
Out of state:Uni of hawaii Manoa ( my parents said its too expensive even thought i am in the WUE program. )
I am stilling waiting for the appeal decision. So my family suggested me to go to UCM since its a UC but which school do you think i should go to? for me, i just wanna go to a UC, i didnt really consider states as an option. Should i choose UCM over states/ CC?
Thanks!!!
There is nothing magical about the UC’s. You can get an excellent education at many of the Cal states at a lower cost. If the UC’s are your goal, then consider applying to a UC for Graduate school or transfer by way of TAG.
SJSU has a very good Forensic’s program so you might want to research that option.
Just remember where you for go for Undergrad will not define, but it is what you do with the opportunities you have been given. You have some good options so focus on those.
My son was/is undecided, and so we didn’t think UCM was a good choice for him because they just had fewer majors. You don’t really seem set on what you want (which I think is normal and fine), and so do be careful that you choose a school that will have a lot of options for you to explore and then to ultimately major in.
You totally need to look at all the majors each school offers, see which ones have majors in all the areas that you may ultimately want to study, and then go check out some of the campuses, or at least do all the virtual tours you can. Go on Niche and read the student reviews for each school, and also check out Unigo also for its reviews.
Look at the percent of students that live on campus to give you an idea of which schools may be more residential-based to give you that kind of “college experience” if that’s something that’s important to you. Look at the weather in each place, and look on a map to see what area each school is in, and what’s around it. I’d say they’re probably all similar choices in terms of the education you’re going to get, especially since you don’t know for sure what you’ll major in, so choose somewhere you want to be.
Community college is a good choice if you want to narrow down your choices and then you can choose a school based on its program in the area you want to study.
You really only have 4 doors open to you and they are all good schools. I’d suggest you ignore the waitlist/appeals and focus on where you are wanted. If a spot opens up, you can reconsider but, you need to secure your seat/housing, etc somewhere in the coming week or so.
You really need to tour the campuses and talk to some existing students… It is the best way to weed through you options.
If you love Fresno, you might also like SJSU but, you will hate Sonoma.
It is a very personal decision… and you have to live with it. nobody on the internet can give you more than that.
Good luck.
Have you visited them all?
