Suits (The Show)

Hello, I was just wondering, what do you think about Suits? Do you think it accurately depicts what lawyers' and paralegals' jobs are like? Or do you think it sugarcoats it? Is it anything like the real world?

I will say that none of the “legal” shows I’ve watched (including “Suits”) remotely comes close to accurately depicting life at a law firm. Its just not that exciting. You just don’t have time to “dick” around when you’re a junior associate.

Franklin and Bash is the most accurate depiction of the legal industry…

Agree. Not realistic but the show is enjoyable

its such an interesting show  but i doubt its really like that

The idea that a firm only hires from Harvard law just sounds really unrealistic. I doubt they can even employ as many people as they would nee that way. I enjoy Suits though. Characters and dialogue are great.

[Is being a lawyer like the movie Fatal Attraction or](<a href=“Is being a lawyer like the movie Fatal Attraction or Forum - Top Law Schools”>Is being a lawyer like the movie Fatal Attraction or Forum - Top Law Schools)

“Ted from Scrubs is probably the most realistic depiction.”

Without doubt it sugarcoats it. Much like the majority of Medical, Police and pretty much any fictional tv series which represents an industry. They all glamorise it, which is why it’s good TV.

One of the more realistic interpretations of the legal industry in a TV show I’ve seen is an Australian show called ‘Crownies’. I know it probably won’t be too appealing because it doesn’t deal with American law, but it does give a more down to earth representation of what the legal office is like. The show adds alot of sex&relationships of course (nothing dissimilar to other TV dramas) but the legal processes are good.

Calling it now that Mike breaks up with GF and starts hooking up with Rachel.

Missed tonight’s episode! Oops! I doubt it’s realistic, but it’s the only show I follow, I love it haha.

I have seen “Suits” and there is nothing in it that even remotely correlates with the practice of law - nothing.

Actually, the day-to-day demeanor of the rest of the associates - you know, the “Harvard ******s” seemed pretty realistic to me. ;)

Its a good show and its the reason im going to law school.
-well they accurately depict how much money its possible to make.

Have to agree with Cartera. I suppose it’s like most tv in that there is little correlation between what happens on shows and what actually happens in reality. If it was a more accurate portrayal, it probably would bore the general public.

lebob, I hope that you’re joking.

The thing that makes law really hard to depict on TV is the time frame. TV = 60 minutes. Law suit = months, usually years from event to settlement or verdict. Hard to translate that into effective drama. At least cop shows and Emergency Room medical dramas get to depict things that may actually happen in a single day.
