Regarding the Aria comments … I did check into the general age of the Aria participants. I didn’t want her to feel out of place or just be too young for the group. There are others her age in her group. There is supervision of anyone under the age of 18 as well as a curfew. The program is very structured and involves several hours of practice per day. Thanks for the input!

My daughter is also a high school junior flutist, and will be attending ARIA. However, she’ll be there 2nd session. She currently studies with Amy Porter, who I understand will be there 3rd, and perhaps your daughter will have the opportunity to work with her, which would be great.

D will go to Innerspark for piano this summer–California State Summer School of the Arts.

sopranomom92, congratulations to your D for getting in to Innerspark. Would appreciate a review of this program when she gets back. It is less than an hour from us yet I have never met anyone who has ever attended much less heard of it, other than me. Thanks!

Piano playing son is going to Morningside Music Bridge this summer.

My D (viola) will be at Aspen and my S (trumpet) will be at BUTI-YAO

My son will be at Bowdoin on violin but also soaking up the composition program vicariously.

Does anyone know anything about the Sherry Kloss Heifetz summer music institute? it used to be in CA or Pittsburgh but this year has moved to Connecticut which makes it convenient. But I notice there is no audition process? The testimonials on the website use only initials. Any reviews would be helpful.

Re: Sherry Kloss-Heifetz Workshop
My son did this as a cellist because it was nearby that year; he really enjoyed it. It’s not as structured as some programs. Wide age range included many serious adult amateurs, at least that year.

Thanks, mom4. How was the program structured, then? I guess all private lessons and some masterclasses? Were there auditions for masterclass performance? the brochure is a little inscrutable.

re: Sherry Kloss’s program: Mostly master classes, no auditions were necessary. My son found that he had to make things happen for himself; with that said, he had 6 master classes over the course of 5 days for solo work and 3 or so master classes for a trio that he had been invited into by other members who had attended before (adults–high level amateurs).

As a cellist, he received one lesson from a local symphony cellist who stopped by; but my friend, an adult violinist who brought my son into the program, had 2 or 3 lessons with Sherry Kloss. Again, your son should make every effort to try to schedule what he wants. It was fun–the level was good–not well organized but if you go in with a good attitude, it can be really good.

And a very very long recital at the end.

POTOMom- did your D hear from Operafestival di Roma? I’d like to know more about the program as its one who doesn’t clearly list the audition requirements.

My D auditioned for it back in November and heard back in late November that she was offered a role in Suor Angelica. She had to let them know by early January if she was going. It is a very expensive program and at that point we didn’t know what our financial outlay for college was going to be so we declined. So other than that, I don’t know what I can tell you. I am certain all the roles are cast at this point. Unless they had some late drop outs. If you PM me, I can give you some email addresses to the persons in charge. We were told that they typically cast college students and graduate students, but… who knows. Sorry, my box was full, try again.

So I got a bit crazy and optimistic and applied to Moritzburg… (yes, seriously)
Does anyone know when results come out ?
