Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) & AP/EA @ Carnegie-Mellon?

i called today, but she said decisions hadn’t been made for me yet, so i guess they made some decisions…

Drats, they closed at 5.

I called at 4:50 and they said they were still going through admissions

hey marcusfenix when did you send in your app?

Ages ago - I thought the deadline was March 1, not March 31. I didn’t have a copy of my January SAT scores though, so I mailed them when I got them a few weeks ago.

Now I just have to hope that I make it off the SSP waitlist.

is this program need-based or merit-based?
do they give you admission if your family makes less money or is it only based on how good your resume is?

It’s a free program, so I would assume that money wouldn’t be an issue.

yea, because it is a free program, would they prefer lower-income students over others? assuming both have the same stats

Oh i see what you are saying. Since this is a “diversity” program, I think it’s their way of saying “come here academically gifted kid with a tough background”

so people w/o “tough backgrounds” are at a disadvantage?

i think that’s how most summer programs that are cost-free work…

Do you guys think the admissions office is gonna be open tomorrow since its easter monday? i’m kind of scared/excited to find out but i sent my application about 3/4 weeks ago so i don’t know if they got to mine yet

i sent mine 2/3 weeks ago and they didn’t get to it, yet…do u think that’s what they say if u got rejected or something?

hey, do you guys mind posting your stats and what you applied for? i applied for SAMS

applying to sams

I think it’s kind of hard to chance b/c they probably look more at your essays than at your stats…

did anybody else call and actually get a response? like decision made?

I called, they said the tentative date is may 1st

I do hope that is the date because all of the College Now Programs (new York) have deadlines around May 15th and those are basically first come first served so I hope I get a response from CMU before I apply to any of those.

Hey guys,

I’m debating between Philosophy and Calc (differentiation and integration). I have my other course, Concepts in Math, already decided. So between Philosophy and Calc which do you guys think is better? Does anyone have experience between the two?

Thanks!

Do you mean AP philosophy and AP calculus?
