Summer Activities: Academic or Leisure Traveling?

Hiya guys, I want to ask for some advice regarding the summer activities section of the supplement.

Is it really preferable to mention leisure travels when you can fill the three blanks with work or acedemic-related activities? I worked as a secretary in a law firm last summer, attended a debate seminar at a local college on my sophomore year, and participated in an exchange program on my freshman year. Wouldn't it be better to put these instead of my trips to Europe and Asia? These trips were fun, of course, and I learned a lot, but wouldn't they look bad if I'm applying for financial aid?

On the other hand, I will mention those work/academic summer activities in another part of my application....

Thoughts?

Leisure traveling won't help your application.

I don't think putting leisure traveling is a very good idea. It makes you sound like a person who is part of the leisure class - you know the kind who people think has a family that doesn't have to work for a living.

Yeah, I didn't think it was a very good idea either. I don't understand why they would be interested on the places you've visited if you weren't really doing anything academically-related anyways. Thanks for the input!
