Summer After Graduation Questions

Hi,

I was hoping to get advice on a couple of issues:

First, I am graduating in a couple weeks and applying to medical schools this summer. However, I did not realize that UC Irvine requires a statistics course and that one quarter of english at my old school plus one semester at my new school may not equal the required year of english (the school I transferred to did grant me three semester credits for it, though). In order to cover my bases, I think I am going to take an online English course from a UC (as out of state schools may not take CC credit??) and an online stats class from a local CA community college (I have a year of calc so this is strictly for UCI which does accept CC credit). Does this route appear acceptable? And, will online courses appear as normal courses to med schools (and satisfy matriculation requirements)?

Second, between getting ready to graduate, apply for med school, and go abroad for a year in late August, I completely forgot that I should probably do something productive this summer. Between secondaries and those classes, I will probably be fairly busy. But, do you guys have any suggestions? I guess I could be a waiter or work in a gym, but I was hoping to do some last minute strengthening of my app. I have a fairly strong numbers app with solid but fairly standard EC's, so I was wondering if you had any ideas on bolstering my health-realted expereince (I will be doing some shadowing), service experience, or just doing something to stand out. I am in the SFBay if it makes a diff.

Sorry for the long post. Any help will be much appreciated.

I’m not too bright about giving you advice b/c I’m graduating high school now lol. But I read about postbac programs, maybe you should have considered one. I know I’m attending Bryn Mawr College in the fall and they have a great postbac premed program that has guaranteed admissions to certain med schools :)

it’s a little late now, but if your willing to wait another year. it definetly helps! I hope I was help sorry you found out too late :(
