UCI is offering a program for 25 selected students. I got into the program but they are asking $2,000 for it. Its only 10 days. I want to apply to the BA/MD programs and I was wondering if this program would be significant on my application?
Thanks,

Do you have a link? Never heard of it.

Definitely not worth it if you are trying to get an application edge. I don’t see anything different than the billion pre-med summer programs out there. If you are interested in it, then by all means do it.

oh my gosh wow. I did the program this last summer and YOU LEARN A LOT!!! Absolutely. I’m not joking, either. At first, I thought that it would be a program thing, informative, with a bunch of APsmart, unsocial-ish, semi-awkward students. It wasn’t. It was informative, but also super interesting. The people there are all friendly and there are lots of seminars and workshops to have questions about the field and different jobs in health care. You also meet lots of doctors and learn about what medical school is all about. They give tips and stuff on who to talk to and how to get experience that would look good on a Med School app. I always thought that I wasn’t super smart enough to be a doctor, so I’d planned on going to Pharmacy school at best. I got accepted into the program, though, and afterwards, I am going to seriously give Med School a try. It kind of opens the door to lots of contacts that you can ask for help and/or advice on getting into college and medical school. The Dean of the Medical school also showed up and gave a speech too. If you plan on going to UCIrvine, then it is definitely something to put on your resume. I can’t even start to say how much an influence it had on my thoughts for the future, but it was awesome. I know the price is steep, but it’s worth it. You might also learn that medicine isn’t something you want to go in. However, the experience is definitely something you want. I wouldn’t join the program just to have something to put in a resume. If your feelings are just as you wrote in your personal statement, then it is definitley a good option to take the program.

I highly recommend this program- unlike most other college premed programs UCI is a very personal program. With a size of only 25 students you will be able to work directly with the professors and the doctors and even medical students who attend UCI- my experience at UCI was the best and because of it I know I want to enter the field of medicine. It has been a year since I did the program and I am still in contact with several of the doctors who work at UCI. Although it is only ten days, it will be the busiest and greatest days of your life. From a cadaver lab to to learning how to suture, you will always be learning- and from my experience I still can’t believe how hands on the program was! If you have any questions please message me- I am the hugest advocate for the UCI Premed Program and my experience was priceless.
