Seeking help and guidance from the experts - my D19 is spending part of her summer adding drawing pieces to her portfolio, and another part working on her Common App essay. (She plans to apply to BA/BFA programs in design/production.)
She would also like to work on essays/writing for schools not using the Common App, most specifically Montclair State and UNCSA.
Does anyone know the writing/essay requirement for Montclair State for the BFA Production and Design Program?
Also, is there anything else necessary re: writing/essays for UNCSA beyond the two-page artist statement?
This is from Montclair’s webpage for Admissions requirements for Production and Design:
Invited applicants should prepare and bring the following to the interview:
A completed Production and Design Application Form. Please note that this is separate from the online University application and is provided when you are invited to interview.
Letter of Intent, providing highlights of previous theatre, design or related experience and plans for future development
Portfolio of best examples of artistic and graphic work, working drawings and/or sketches. Please see Portfolio Guidelines for preparation and set-up requirements.
Resume of experience
Two letters of recommendation completed by a teacher, director and/or other professional familiar with your work and potential. They may be copies of letters already provided to the Office of Admissions.
Small photo of yourself
Photocopy of your high school or college transcript
Any additional support materials that would enhance your application
$50 interview fee (non-refundable) payable by check or money order to Montclair State University.
**This is the general Montclair essay prompt for all students applying:
Explain your reasons for seeking admission to Montclair State University, including what you believe are your academic strengths and interests. Be sure to explain any situations that may have had an impact, either positively or negatively, on your academic record. Students interested in sending a resume of extracurricular activities, volunteer work, internships, etc. can include it in the same document as their essay.
Please be sure that these are updated essay prompts. Many of the schools are in the process of updating their information and can change prompts/requirements from year to year
@theatremom10 is correct… many schools are updating information… for example, where I work we have updated the audition/portfolio review dates, but have not updated the essay prompt for the essay required for the major (there is a change this year), nor any of the other specifics. I expect all should be updated by sometime in August.
