So, I am applying to UNCSA for acting and one of their requirements is a two paged artistic statement. Is this supposed to be double spaced, or single spaced? Is it just a discussion of who I am as a performer, and what I wish to accomplish? This is the last school I need to send in the application for and this is statement is all I have left to do!

I would say that this would be a good place to discuss specifics (for example, do you like Shakespearean acting? improv? physical acting? have you done a lot of MT but really prefer straight theatre? etc) and also talk about peripherals (for example, are you interested in directing? playwriting? dance? any kind of design, like costume or lighting design?).

I’m sure double spaced would be okay. (Or you could split the difference and make it 1.5 spacing!) I think they say two pages because they are urging you to say a lot and are hoping that you will have a lot to say.

Theatre programs tend to really like it if a student is interested in learning about the whole creative process of “making theatre” in all its aspects, as opposed to being more narrowly interested in just acting. If this is true of you and you can somehow demonstrate it in your statement, it would be to your advantage.

Congratulations for being so near the end of your apps! Good luck!

Son is also working on UNCSA artistic statement. Thanks for the info, NJTheaterMOM. Good advice.
