Summer Animation Programs for Sophomores

My daughter is interested in computer animation, and we are looking for a summer and/or precollege program for her. She is a skilled artist, is drawing all the time, and has a small amount of animation experience that she has done on her own. She is currently a Freshman. We live in Florida, but we can send her to a program that has a residential program for kids her age. Any suggestions? Most of the programs I have looked at only accept rising Sophomores and Juniors. Has anyone had experience with SVA? The program looks good, but we are a little worried that she will be the youngest person there... CSSSA looks fantastic, but we are out of state, so we think she has a small chance of being accepted there. Thanks so much!

Have you looked at Ringling’s summer program? They are in Sarasota. Computer Animation is their strong point.

My dd is a first year at Ringling, and she loves it. She did not go to the summer program, but many of the kids did and they all had a great time. Just a piece of advice, when we looked at summer programs that were residential, the student had to be 16 before it began. My dd just turned 16 before the programs after her sophomore year. It is an insurance issue, as I understand it, and so we were not willing to fudge anything. I am sure that there are some programs out there, and I don’t know about whether Ringling takes kids younger than 16. It is just something to think about. And, yes, Computer Animation is one of the strongest areas at Ringling.
