Hi I am going to be a sophomore next school year. So for the summer, i have registered in a five-day summer art camp (about video editing,a normal summer camp, just need money for it),because i love media art very much. Then i found out that the local city college also offer a video production class. I am now struggling with a problem: should i take the summer camp, which is kind of expensive for my family,(my dad doesn't have job), or take the free city college class and dropped the camp since it hasn't started yet??
Both summer camp and city college class teach me about the editing tools and software...
and Which one will help more on college apps?
really need help...thank you so much..

Hi goscryu, Don’t worry about which “looks better” on college apps. Just follow your interests, which might change quite a bit between now and graduation! :-)

Is the city college course a summer program for HS students, or a full-fledged college class? If it’s a regular college course, it might be overwhelming b/c they would have to cover in a few weeks or a month what would normally take a semester. So, summer courses can be very intense. Just something to check out!

If both courses are designed for HS students, or you feel you can manage a regular college course, then maybe this is a good year to do the city college program since it would be less of a burden on your family. Hopefully things will turn around financially for your family, and you might even be able to do a pre-college program in the future! If not, no worries, just keep engaging in whatever your interests might be; that is what colleges like to see (and good grades!).

One last thought: many programs offer financial assistance. Have you inquired about that at the summer camp? They might surprise you! Good luck and enjoy your summer!
