Summer art - residential life and supervision

Hi all -

DD15, a homeschooled sophomore, is switching gears from math to art and interested in attending a residential summer art program, having enjoyed math camps in the previous summers. Everyone warns us that this is a very different crowd of kids and to look for camps that supervise the kids when they are not in class.

Comments appreciated on summer art in general, but particularly on residential life/supervision issues at the following:

New Hampshire Institute of Art
Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design
Kansas City Art Institute
Minneapolis College of Art and Design
Montserrat College of Art
Portland Northwest College of Art
Maine College of Art

Thanks much!

Me too, hs2015mom! I hope some people respond to your post. We’ve looked at SCAD, Ringling, Minneapolis Art Institute, and Kansas City Art Institute. On paper, at least. Ringling sounds awesome but the dates cross over something else the DD can’t miss. Also Ringling and SCAD get pretty awful reviews from full-time and former students. MAI sounds very good, but it’s a loooong way from home (South Louisiana). Kansas application deadline was April 1. Sigh…

My DD is 17 and a junior, but I’m not at all keen on sending her all the way across the country for one of these programs. The California and NY area program costs are just too high, not to mention the costs of flying there.
