Summer before freshman year

What can an entering freshman do to prepare for engineering?

Are there any books you would recommend reading or any computer skills one should learn?

My advice is, don’t try learning new things. Brush up on what you learned in high school, particularly math and physics.

More importantly though, you should have fun this last summer! You’re likely not going to see all your high school friends together ever again, and it’s good to take a break and just relax before starting college.

You should prepare for college by not worrying about it. Save college for college.

Plan and cook dinner for your family during the week. You need to learn to cook and they are a captive audience. Get in shape, exercise everyday. Your mood will be better and you’ll feel better. Date. Teach yourself how to play guitar. Clear your room of useless high school clutter. Get rid of “private” things you don’t want your mom stumbling onto when you are at college. Donate clothes, shoes you will not wear anymore- no matter if they are still good or not. Spend time with your grandparents. Hang out with your family-get out of your room. Play your dog.

Learn how to Baltimore Club Dance.

Haha thanks, don’t get me wrong, I’m planning to have fun this summer, but that’s the stuff I don’t need advice for.

Learn to use excel really well or something but other than that just hang out and have a good time.

Keep your math skills sharp by doing a few nontrivial math problems per day. Maybe brush up on your basic chemistry/physics concepts.
