summer before senior year

how important is what you do the summer before senior year?
i was thinking of working at a soccer camp for 2 weeks (for the second year in a row) and making my own dark room.

thoughts?

Depends on what you want to do after. Grad school/workforce etc?

If you’re doing college correctly, you’ll have a full enough resume by the time you start applying for real jobs/grad schools that you won’t have room to list what you did the summer before your freshman year. Spend it having fun and making money :)

Along the same lines, does the summer before our freshman year even count into med/grad school admissions? Im volunteering for 2 months in Tanzania and it would be super cool if that could also be a part of my resume

It’s not really about whether it counts or not, I mean you can put whatever you want on your resume. However, I think what it will really do for you is to give you an amazing experience that you can talk about and will probably lead you to have other amazing experiences. Have fun and fully experience it, you don’t need to be worried about what it counts for in post-grad admissions processes, as you’ll likely have so much else by then as silentsailor mentions. (but again, this doesn’t mean you can’t put it on your resume, and doing so will help you acquire some of these other opportunities)

oh no sorry,
i mean i am a junior in high school, applying to rice next year, and i was wondering how much it matters to do something impressive, such as research or an internship, the summer before senior year of high school for admissions to rice.
