I'm trying to decide between taking a creative class for summer @ brown or a social entrepreneur class for the leadership institute. I know they're completely different. If anyone has taken these courses or wants to recommend me class that they took, feel free to let me know what you think I should do!

Hey!
So I went to Summer@Brown last summer for three weeks, I signed up for two classes :
History of American Film (Michael Siegel) which was AWESOME
Giants of Philosophy (Michael Young) too ambitious for only 3 weeks in my taste, I ended switching into Writing the Academic Essay (Jeffrey Convington) which unexpectedly GREAT. Honestly, not academic at all and the professor was young, fun and dynamic (the other academic essay class didn’t have such a great professor though… hahaha)
I met some people at leadership but that’s really because I tried my best and am of a very outgoing nature (literally, I walked into their locals with a friend who went to the leadership institute the previous session and sat in the lounge and talked) but the dorms/locals are isolated from the main campus, and I don’t know any of my friends from Summer@Brown who knew anyone from Institute. From what I remember, you are subject to a schedule established by the professors who are coordinating the institute so you may have class the whole day, or randomly have to go on a daytrip… Also, much less people, much less freedom (apparently) and well… much less fun ;)

The main campus has a lot to offer and you may not be able to get the full brown experience in the institute : secret rooms in dorms (Pub in Sears basement etc.). Also, the variety of people at Summer@Brown is prodigious and you will ALWAYS be able to find someone you like/relate to.

So I would encourage you to go to summer@brown but if leadership is what you want to do and if you prefer a tighter, smaller, more private community… well…

No matter what you choose, Brown is a great place to be and Providence a cute town, things not to miss :

-Six flags with your friends (can get pricey, but hey, it’s the summer)
-Newport (free bus ride with your brown ID and only beach around haha)
-Boston (around 10$ a bus journey if i recall, Peter Pan bus lines rock)
-Mama Kim’s food truck (awesome korean food)
-Shows downtown (I went to see a hardcore concert in an art gallery… it was… interesting )
-DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE ← Literally, I did not realise how awesome Providence can be until my last week there, do not limit you to the mall that isn’t even that good. There are really nice boutiques and restaurants (korean food omg) and remember this IS a full time college town so there MUST be something out there that you’ll like.

Feel free to message me/reply to this if you want more info, I really could not stop praising this program

I applied to this program yesterday! I also applied for the Dean’s scholarship, does anyone know what the process is like/what I can expect?

What is a day at summer@brown like? Any advice on what to take advantage of ect?

Thanks in advance!!
