Who has done this program before?

I'm considering the 1 week mini course for Intro to Financial Marketing.

Is it worth the 2000 dollars for a week?

If you have any answers, comments or suggestions, please post.

I'd say its certainly NOT worth it - you don't get any credit, and it's only a week. I'd rather suggest taking a full fledged academic course at HYP or something - a course costs the same as that $2000 but it lasts instead 5 weeks and you get credit that is usually transferable (who wouldnt accept HYP credit?)

My friend did one of the one week programs at Brown...yeah, I don't suggest it. From what she said, she didn't make any friends there. By the time you get used to the atmosphere, start making friends, etc. you're packing up to go home. And like Infinite_Truth mentioned, you don't get credit. I don't think she enjoyed the class much either, from what she said a week wasn't enough time to really get into what you're learning.

I did it - it was really fun and I enjoyed it, but I don't think it is worth the money. However, if you have the money to spend, I do recommend going.

is it worth it depens on what you are looking for. if it is simply an experience and your have the extra cash go for it....However my S's friend did it last summer. she hoped it would help her gain ED. It didn't (she was just deferred and is now devasted :C..
I think as other poster said ---taking credits at a college where you prove you can do college level work is more impressive to the adcoms. and certainly better value for the dollar.

Well the thing is, I go to sleepaway camp in New York and this is my last summer there, but my school ends June 5 and camp starts june 27th. So I have alot of time, and in that time, I figured i can do smething productive, the 1 week mini course. Also, my dad just agreed to pay for it, so I'm sending out my aplication.

GreenStiky : you cant really juudge a program on if someone makes friends or not. im an extremely social kid, maybe your friend wasn't.

my friend kevin decided to do summer@brown in 2006.
he didn't like it at all.

"There isn't anything to do at all. All we do is go to the movie theaters."
-kevin

He met amazing people there (as people do at all camps because amazing people are everywhere) but he felt it was a complete waste of 4 weeks and kept contacting me over AIM telling me that it was so boring and how he couldn't wait to get home.

what do you guys think about the longer sessions? the leadership programs looked very appealing.

A week wouldn't be enough. I did it for 3 weeks, and it was pretty interesting. It is true that you don't get any college credit, but it's still something worth talking about in interviews and so on. Plus, you can really find out if that particular subject is worth your interest.

Longer sessions are much better. :D

Also, there was TONS to do. There were activities every night. There were college visits, beach visits, essay lectures to help you for college...I was so busy with my class that I spent most of the day going to class and then eating, haha. But then you can always walk to the mall nearby if you really want to.

So you guys don't think I should do the 1 week thing? Would it not be fun to be there for like a week?

what class did you take catsushi?

Take a course that's at least 3-4 weeks.

Oh, btw, whoever said you could take a course at HYP for 5 weeks, get credit, all for less than $2000 is REALLY wrong. It'll probably take 6-8 weeks, and that'll cost you more like $8000. If you can afford it, go ahead. But most can't, and just want to get a taste of Ivy life, and have a little fun. If that's what you're looking for, you'll enjoy it.

Oh, and don't go expecting to get a boost in admissions...NOT going to happen. That's really dumb.

I'm not expecting to get a boost in admissions. I actually am not even inerested in Brown. Its just the only program that is an ivy school that offers a
one week program that starts when I need it to.
