If your child attends a summer camp, do you include that as part of their activity profile and list the activities he/she participates in there?
We did. It shows your kid is comfortable living away from home. (Our kid spent 6 weeks at a sleepaway camp across the country).
I wouldn’t underline the activities themselves unless they are distinctive or show your kid can contribute to similar activities at a high level at their school.
We did include those years and the wilderness “solo” trip, as well as award in distinctive activity that showed level of accomplishment in a specific area. Although reaching the equivalent of a high scouting medal is not relevant to BS, the survival techniques that were required did get noticed by a few AO’s (they told us after interviews and also mentioned upon Revisit). Being independent, being away from home, navigating new social situations, succeeding in novel endeavors…all things AO’s may want to hear…plus all solid learning experiences for your kids to prepare them for being on their own later at school.
FWIW…kiddo tells us that the summer camp experiences and wilderness trips have proven to be the best preparation for surviving the first year of BS =)) …probably because the cabin at camp was more luxurious than the Freshman dorm.
Thank you! I’m going to have them include it in their email to the AOs with additional info for the profile.
Boarding school? Definitely. It is evidence your child can function away from home, overnight.
Thanks @Garandman ! We listed it in the additional info they sent to the school.
I just saw that your kids are at Tabor. The boy who lived in the dorm room next to me in college went to a Tabor. He was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known!
