Summer Camps at Northwestern

Hey everyone! I’m currently a sophomore in high school, and am planning to apply to Northwestern in a couple of years when I’m a senior.

What I’m wondering is how much, if any, of a difference it would make to participate in summer programs and activities at NU? I love the school, so I’ll definitely be doing it, but is there a chance it will make any difference in my admissions decision? I’ll also be applying ED if that makes any difference as well. Thanks everyone!

Hi there seahawks. H and I are alums in the Chicagoland area (though not the north shore) and my son graduated from there earlier this year. Both my kids attended CTD programs there. It’s not as though the programs themselves are any “in” - but you can use the greater familiarity you would have with the campus to augment a “why Northwestern” essay. The ED, though, is really the biggest show of love.

Hey Pizza. I never really thought about how I could use the experience in an essay, but thinking about it now, I see how useful it could be to add personal details from the camp to my essay. Thanks so much!

seahawksjoe - Congratulations on your choice - and to help you out, I have more anecdotal evidence. My D is an alum, and S is current student. We are from Chicago area, and one applied ED and one RD, and neither participated in an official NU summer program. So, if you can go, I am sure you would enjoy it, but you do not HAVE to participate.
Good Luck, and Go Cats!
