Does anyone know anything about the summer session for organic chemistry (chem 112A, 112B, 112C)? I am planning on taking all 3 over this summer. How's the work load/tests/etc or any advice?

I'm taking 112A & B with Marsella, and 112C with Switzer. Thanks! :)

I personally haven’t taken the Chem112 series in the summer, but I have taken it during the normal year. What I can tell you is that the summer version will definitely move faster than the regular year version. Lectures are two and a half hours long, four times a week, and you have labs like three times a week? So the workload is intense.

In regards to the exams, they’re going to be mostly free response where you draw in molecular products, write down names, and draw mechanisms. Some portions might contain multiple choice, but don’t count on it.

Personally, if you have to take a graduate-exam in the future (like the MCAT or something), then I would recommend you take it during the normal year so that you have an adequate amount of time to learn and absorb everything, rather than rush through. Although based on your post, it would seem that isn’t an option, so my advice is:

Stay on track

Pay close attention to lecture

Do homework if its offered because ochem is a subject where you get better through practice

Good luck.

I heard chem 112 series is easier in the summer because there is a higher curve… I took it during the school year and I thought it was not difficult. Marsella is the easiest ochem professor in ucr and I heard for Switzer, all you have to do is study his note and you will get good grade.
