Hey everyone
I need to take the second semester of ochem, preferably at a community college in Southern California before fall 13 and I'm desperate. My admissions decision is based on me taking this class before I transfer.

Does anyone know if their school offers ochem 12b? (Second semester) if not I will have to take 2 quarters of ochem in the summer at a UC somehow.

Based on previous years, MiraCosta college and Palomar don’t offer ochem2 in the summer. Miracosta - and I’m sure other schools too - will be releasing the summer schedule around April 12, so hopefully they will add that class? You can take ochem at UCSD as a visiting student during their summer session, though.
If you don’t mind, could you tell me what uc is making that a condition for you to transfer? I will also be missing ochem2 if I get accepted anywhere (I’m a bio major). I’ll see if I can find any more info on this. Hopefully you’ll get to take this class in the summer. Good luck!

thanks for your reply! I’m a bio major also. UCI is making me take ochem2 before fall 13. They changed their biology major pre reqs this year, and went from only recommending the second semester of ochem to having a year REQUIRED. So here I am frantically looking around for schools that offer ochem2. I also applied to UCLA and they have the ochem2 recommended so if I get in there I doubt I’ll have to take ochem2 in the summer. Good luck to you as well :)

I applied to UCI too and I’m still pending there! At least I know what to expect now. I also applied to UCSD and the second semester of ochem is recommended there as well. I’ll keep looking into this for you. Maybe I will see you in class during the summer if we’re lucky, lol
Maybe as a last option you could talk to them and see if you can’t take that one class during the fall at a ccc? I’ve seen people going to UCSD and taking a class at my ccc before to fulfill a requirement, not sure how it worked for them though.

I highly doubt you’re going to find a CC that offers ochem 2 in the summer. IMO, just from the curriculum it would be extremely difficult to teach over a shorter summer session and I can’t remember ever seeing it offered over summer session and I attended a several CCs in the LA area.

Ah I’m in the same situation I’ve been looking around my area but haven’t found any community colleges that offer it. I know UCI and UCLA offer the second part of ochem in the summer session though. CSUDH also offers ochem I and ochem II in the summer, but I’m not sure if they’ll transfer properly so I’m a bit hesitant to take it there.

yeah let’s keep our fingers crossed that we get into LA or SD so we can take it in the fall! For UCI, there’s no way they would let us take it in the fall, I talked to a counselor there

what sucks is that we would have to find somewhere else that offers the 3rd quarter of ochem in the summer, cuz technically we wouldn’t finish the entire “year” until all 3 quarters are done. Good luck to us all!
