Summer College on Merit Scholarship?

Hey everyone, I have a question about going to summer college on merit scholarship.
I really want to go to summer college, but my parents aren't completely willing to pay (Note that i'm not doing it for resume padding but it sounds like an amazing experience).
I am starting to save up (about 700 dollars so far and i'm going to get 1 or 2 jobs this year).
How high should your stats be if you want a merit scholarship? and how much is this scholarship?
I am willing to go to any residential summer school, preferably from brand name schools, but if they are harder to get a merit scholarship from that's fine also.
thanks a bunch!

I don't think is the right forum. Try the "Summer Programs." I am saying this because I know nothing about the topic and it has nothing to do with high school. Maybe I am wrong.... :)

well high school forum is viewed more, plus summer college in during the high school years lol
i think summer programs forum is aimed more at TASP and stuff like that

Okay, I don't know through. I think you need to check out the colleges' website that you are interested in and find out the info. The merit aid thing varies from school to school.

i did, and most just give an aid "fin aid is given on a basis of need, high school achievement," blah blah blah
if anyone could provide a rough idea (certain SAT scores, GPA, achievements, etc) would be nice :)

It all depends on the College. I say, being a leader of a club of two, playing a sport or intrumet (like guitar and running in your case), having about 2000 SATs(also your case), and a 3.7+ GPA could get you Merit Aid at a couple of schools. Not great schools, but good schools.

so do you think syracuse or delaware could give me merit aid for stats like those?
if so, that'd be awesome! :D

I did Delaware's Summer College (an amazing experience; I highly recommend it) the summer before my junior year. If I recall correctly, I got a $200 merit scholarship... maybe $400... and the OOS price is like $5000, so that wasn't really significant. :/ (And I hadn't taken the SAT yet, so all they had to go by were my PSAT [234] and GPA [4.0]. Maybe they give better merit aid to people who are a year older and have taken the SAT.)

Don't rule it out, though, just because they didn't give me a lot! I have no idea how it works -- I think most programs do it on a first-come-first-serve basis (I know that's the case for Brown's, which I did this year.) I didn't even know Delaware GAVE merit scholarships until I got one, lol. Your best bet would be to call them up and ask what kind of aid you could get. I really like the people who run the UDel program; if you told them your situation, they'd probably do what they could to help you.

OH, and you can also apply for need-based aid (although I guess you might not be eligible, if your parents are just refusing to pay.)

haha yeah i'm not sure if i'm eligible or not my parents make a combined about 80 grand or 90 grand a year
So the oos price is 5 grand, does that mean dorms and courses or just courses?

My top choice would have to be Cornell, but i doubt they would give good merit aid.

Sure, shoot!

I'm in a similar situation... I have about 1.5k saved up and I want to go to a full 10 week summer school at UNC-CH for 4 courses which costs a little over 4k (courses+dorms+meal plan) instate. It's mainly an issue with convincing my grandparents.... maybe my church would give a bit of money.

Oh and also, how much should your family income bracket be to receive FA?
My family probably gets about....
80, 000 a year.
