I previously went to a Governor's a School program. This was seriously the best experience of my life (socially and academically), along with it being absolutely pivotal in the development of who I am today. I am far better than my past self in every respect due to this program. Now, this summer, I will probably have the chance to attend this program again (although in a different subject area- likely engineering) if I am rejected from my other summer programs- which is likely. This sounds like a great thing, right? I don't know. I'm kind of afraid that I won't feel the same ecstasy as I did last time. Of course I'll be better off academically, so I'll obviously go to the program, but I'm kind of afraid to "tarnish" my previous experience with a somewhat inferior one. It might be better, though. This summer might exceed all previous awesome-ness levels achieved. I don't know what to think. Have any of you had concerns like this? Would you go to the program again, or let someone else (one that probably hasn't gone before) take your place?

Bump. Would you accept a place in the program, or let someone else attend in your spot (if you were in this situation)?

Kitten, in general, it is a huge honor to be selected for a Governor’s school program. I was not aware that one could go twice, but if you are selected, and don’t have other equivalent choices, I don’t think it would benefit you to turn it down. If you can go, then attending is only going to enrich you and strengthen your college application. You are so young and even if last summer stands out as a great experience- surely there will be more- and not attending programs won’t change that. There will be new people to meet and new activities this summer. In the long run, you will look back at some summers being more fun than others, but that’s how life is, and while you don’t know how this one will turn out, that isn’t a reason to turn down the honor.

Ok, thank you pennylane. And yes, in my state we are allowed to attend gov school twice.

Honestly, I would give my spot up. There are other people who want to experience the experience of being honored to attend a governor’s school. If you don’t have anywhere else to go, then, I guess it’s okay.
