Summer Festivals for Flutists

I'm a first year flute performance major looking for a great summer program. Does anyone have suggestions/experiences they would like to share?

Aria at Williams College has been a good program. I don’t know who the faculty is this summer but in past years its been people like Boyd, Porter, and Underwood. Check it out. PM me if you have questions. You should also take a look at Walfrid Kujala’s Orchestral Master Class or Trevor Wye’s Master Class series. Debost has a program at Oberlin too.

Oh, also the National Symphony Orchestra has a summer institute at the Kennedy Center that is very good. I’ve heard that the players might be less experienced than a college performance major level, but you could look into it and decide.

Flutie, there’s a comprehensive list here, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/510498-music-festival-master-list.html</a> but not flute specific.

If you get on the National Flute Association Website (NFA) they have a comprehensive list of summer classes and programs listed under the section Masterclasses. My daughter is signed up for ARIA and may also do Jim Walker’s “Beyond the Masterclass” and perhaps one other.
