I am a junior living in the Bay Area, CA. I applied to SIMR for its neuroscience program but was rejected. I am applying to a neuroscience camp at Mulhenberg College, but it's in Pennsylvania and only for a week.

...I know it's pretty late in applying to most programs, but are there ANY neuroscience summer programs, or colleges that have good neuroscience classes, or any neuroscience company internships, or professors that need help with their neuroscience research projects?

Location isn't a big issue, must be under $2000.

I am from San Francisco originally, and while this isn’t really a program or research project, I know a number of people who took classes at UC Berkeley over the summer, which is at least something productive/interesting to do, and can be under $2,000. depending on which classes you take (this is assuming you can commute, of course - I don’t know exactly where you live).

Honestly, other than neuroscience summer programs where you apply and pay to attend, I don’t think there’s a lot for high school students. It’s already incredibly difficult to find internships and other such opportunities as a freshman college student, as I have learned. Not to be discouraging, just pointing it out.

Rather than studying neuroscience this summer, why not volunteer some time working with people who have neurological impairments, if you haven’t already? Getting some first hand experience with what it’s like to live with different kinds of neurological challenges might help you focus in on your area(s) of interest - it’s a big field. There are many organizations that serve those with neurological handicaps so it shouldn’t be hard to identify a few that would value your time.

Alternatively see if you can shadow a professional or two who works in the field - doctors, therapists, clinicians - to get a feel for the kind of work being done. They might prove to be valuable mentors - or at least provide some interesting summer employment at a later date.
