Summer Internship Advice (Undergraduate)

Please help me figure out what is my best option for this upcoming summer because I am lost.

I am a sophomore psychology major at a top 20 university who is hoping to go to a good clinical psychology program (looking closely at Florida State). At graduation I expect my GPA to be around a 3.8 and I should have completed five semesters of being a research assistant.

Alright, that being said I have a few options. Please help me figure out what is best for me.

I could work in a research lab that is studying taste in mice essentially. It isn’t really my thing (I don’t think at least) nor is it all that connected to anything clinical, and it is not paid. The upside is that if I help I will become a co-author of a future paper. I know that this is important but I don’t know how important it is

I could work in a lab that studies the causes of marital problems. I am not sure yet if this will be a paid opportunity but it very well might be

I could do a volunteer program through my school where I volunteer for 8 weeks during the summer and in return I gain a $2000 scholarship for the next year as well as 3 credits of psych directed reading. I would try to pick an assignment that has some clinical connection.

I could just work a normal job and save the interning for next summer. I am not saying that I won’t do it next summer again if I do it this summer, I probably will. I am just not sure at what point doing this extra stuff stops helping me.

Thanks in advance for your advice, I really do appreciate it! Please post your responses or any questions you may have.
