This is my first thread in the forum.....

I am currently an Undergrad from India, and I need to make some really tough decisions for the summer of 2k14. These are the places, where I have been accepted:

TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research) on Quantum Computing------one of the top notch research facilities in the country

NTU (Nanyang Technical Unversity, Singapore) on Quantum Computing

University of California, Berkeley on Space Sciences

Now, here's the problem. I know that UCB is highly reputed when it comes to research. But my interest lies in Quantum Computing (which is not the area that I will be working in UCB). So, now I am torn between research interest and college reputation. Which one do you think, shall I opt ??

Thanks in advance.

I don’t really know much about either (I’m actually another major). But honestly, if your interest lies in Quantum Computing, then I would say go for #1 or #2. I think it is also a good chance for you to go somewhere new to learn, explore, and have fun as well (I think #2 is the best choice). If you’re not interested in Space Sciences, don’t do it because in the end you’re just going to be discontent/not doing what you truly want to do. The problem with this is I noticed previous experience tends to affect later internships (or that was my case for internships), so if you do the Quantum Computing internship, i feel like it would open more doors to things related to Quantum Computing.

If you do the Space Sciences internship, and then try to go into quantum computing later, it might be a little harder because you don’t have as much experience, and people might be wondering why you did space sciences and you decided to switch to something else later. and its Singapore! It seems like a good opportunity to go to another country as well.

wait, just double checking, you are a student from Cal right?

Nope, I am not a Cal student. Like I stated, I’m from India…
Anyway thanx…
