Summer Internship

Hi everyone. I am a hs senior right now attending the University of Maryland next year. I was wondering whether or not it would be more useful doing a summer internship program at NIH/HHMI during the summer between my senior year and freshman year of college. Would it be better to wait until next summer between freshman and sophomore year of college? I have a feeling I would be a more qualified applicant then since I would get to start new (grades and lab experience) and would have a better chance at getting in. I don't know if hs seniors/pre freshman doing this internship would help them or not in premed. Any thoughts? If I don't do this...I may just go volunteer at a local hospital/ work at a Best Buy for a couple weeks till next summer.

The summer before college?! Don’t waste it in a lab, have fun and hang out with your friends.

^Now that’s what I’m talking about.
