Summer Internships-Compensation and/or credit

WooHoo D just landed her internship today! She is a PR major and got an unpaid but EXCELLENT internship! She will work it part-time (around 20 hours a week) and then work a paid part-time job another 20-25 hours a week. Heck, in these times, we're satisfied with that!

The internship may be unpaid, but she WILL be earning an on-the-spot education in a quality setting that is directly in her field and she will get credit for it at her college.

DS chose not to apply for internships at big companies at the Fall job fairs. (I sighed, groaned and rolled my eyes when I found out ) He just found out that he has a great full-time research position (paid) this summer with a prof in an area that he is interested/majoring in, and he is very excited! The work will continue through the school year. As I posted on another thread, my son had no experience other than retail and camp counseling type jobs, and also chose a work/study job that was not in his field, so had no relevant experience (besides interest and coursework.) I don't believe that he would have received such a great opportunity at our big state flag-ship U; there would have been 30 or 40 more qualified go-getter types vying for the position. Luckily, his U has opportunities for all! :) :) :)
