Summer Language Programs in Japan

I'm researching summer study abroad programs in Japan for next year for my son. He will have completed AP Japanese in school, and wants to do a homestay program for 4 weeks that will allow him to get as close to being fluent as possible. At this point, I think we have it narrowed down to the AFS program, in which students attend language classes, and the AYUSA program, in which students are enrolled as exchange students in a local high school. I've heard positive things about the AFS program, but don't know anyone who's participated in the AYUSA program. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's had experience with either of these programs regarding their pros and cons, as well as in learning about any other summer language programs in Japan anyone wants to recommend.

I thought The Experiment in International Living looked very good.
Cornell has an intensive 8 week proram at Cornell called, I think, Falcon. It does accept high school students.
And, Concordia Language Villages has a 4 week program in Japan.
