I’m 25 y.o and I’m a junior. This is my first year at a major state university and I went thru the recruiting process this fall. My age never came up once and I have two office visits with big 4 firms coming up soon. A strong gpa some EC (BAP) are what you need. My work experience did help me as well. Look at the firms website under their recruiting and it will tell you what they are looking for. Then tailor your experiences to what they are looking for I’m sure even in unrelated fields you will find something.

I have a question that isn’t about employment, but about a “Diversity Workshop” that deloitte is holding. They’re holding something called “deloitte diversity workshop”…has anyone heard of that?

I am actually part of the Deloitte Diversity Series too. It’s a fairly interesting program, and you get to spend a good half of the day at their office doing some branding/resume workshop activities with associates, managers, and partners from both Accounting and Deloitte Consulting. So far, everyone I know who applied got in. This is in the San Francisco/Bay Area program.

I’m also in Deloitte’s diversity series program. Its fairly generic, but useful if you’re unsure about a career in public accounting. Its an easy thing to put on a resume if you have room. I’ve been accepted to Ernst & Young’s local emerging leaders program, but I didn’t get interviews with PwC, Deloitte, or KPMG. I have an interview with BDO on Tuesday.

I’m a sophomore accounting major right now, will be working full time this summer at my usual position of Lead Porter (fancy title, I know) at a used car dealership, along with a short internship at a local small accounting firm. I’m currently sporting a 3.92 GPA (one B in Business Finance, A’s otherwise). Planning to join the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Fraternity at my school next year, as the youngest you can be is a junior.

I wont have 150 credits after 4 years, so I will be doing a fifth year at either my current school (UCF in Florida) or Baruch in NY if I am accepted/decide to go. So although I’m not in an actual “five year degree program,” I will be doing a fifth year for an MSA to get to 150 credits. Therefore, I plan to try for an SLP at one of the Big 4 firms next summer, after my junior year. Then go for an internship with one of them between senior year and my masters program.

Am I on track with all this? I was going to do it this summer, but from what I understand, it is supposed to be after your junior year if you plan to do a fifth year. I’m not technically in a “five year program” so I just wanted to make sure I understand this correctly. I believe KPMG’s wesbsite uses the phrase “two years before your education is over,” which would be accurate for me, but I think PWC says “after your second year in a four year program or after your third year in a five year program.” This kinda threw me off because like I said, I will graduate with an Accounting degree after four years, but will need a fifth for 150 credits. I’m sure I’m just reading into this more than I need to, but I just wanted to make sure, even though its a bit late if it were this summer lol.

It sounds like the Big 4 websites are pretty clear about timing. However, my DS is a first year associate in the Big 4 who attended a couple of SLPs after his sophomore year along with many others who were finishing their second year in a 5-year program. The following summer after his junior year, when he had a full-time internship, so did they. Following DS’ graduation, however, the 5-years returned to school to complete their degrees.
