Summer Orientation

What happens if i can’t attend? Will i get off to a really bad start?

summer advising is when you take placement tests and register for classes. thats pretty important.

To add on to what mr18359 said, if you miss registration during Summer Advising, not only will you miss out on the help that advisors give you with your schedule during SA, but also your first time to register will be Pass 2, when all the classes are already filled up.

ATTEND IT AT ALL COSTS (caps Lock Makes What I Say More Important)

Please see <a href="http://orientation.ucdavis.edu/freshmen/faqfreshmen.html#cannotattend%5B/url%5D">http://orientation.ucdavis.edu/freshmen/faqfreshmen.html#cannotattend</a> for comments about your question.

For any current UCD students or admissions officers: how important is orientation? I'm going on vacation this summer to a different country and won't come back until late August, so I would have to change tickets, plans, etc. Apparently I can make it up from UCD Admissions' post above, but would it impact me significantly at least my first year at UCD? Thanks for the help

yeah, im in the same situation as pike...gonna be outta the country til august

My d's orientation last summer was in August. Have they posted the dates on your my.ucdavis.edu web pages yet? Has anyone signed up yet? I know last summer the dates were set up by major and there was more than one choice.

collegemom16, the dates are out, but the different groups are separated by only a few days. For example group 1 for College of Engineering is from August 12-14, and group 2 is from August 15-17, so the difference is not that big. Can anyone help me out with my question above? Is not attending orientation going to affect what classes I can take or have any other major impact on me? thanks

I know you will miss the placement tests, but they can be made up on specific dates after school starts. The only problem is that if you fail a placement test you may be forced to switch into different classes (get the study books in the book store to review beforehand). Orientation is a good time to meet some other students and get to know your way around campus better. You will also miss your first opportunity to register for classes. I don't know what you do instead since we attended the orientation.

We highly recommend you attend this program if at all possible. If not possible we recommend you at least contact an academic adviser to see about meeting to set up your courses before your registration pass date. We also recommend you register for Orientation as “Will not attend.” If you do so registration information will be sent to you. Please refer to the schedule of events for orientation, <a href="http://orientation.ucdavis.edu/freshmen/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://orientation.ucdavis.edu/freshmen/index.html</a> , to see what you will be missing.

Thanks, it looks like I won't be able to attend orientation because the plane tickets are extremely hard to change now so I'll be coming back on August 30th. I have friends also going to UCD so I am planning to ask them for help or to find out about any important things I missed.

I looked up the date for pass 1 and they are listed as Jun 22–Aug 24 for new students, but how would I contact an academic adviser? I don't see a link to a phone number or email address on the UCD website. Also, if I set up an appointment what materials should I bring?
