Summer overload? Need help!!

Hey guys! So I registered for three classes over the summer term at my local community college. I am taking Calculus 1, Introductory English, and a History class. I looked at rate my professor to get the best professors available which I think I did for English and History. Calculus and English span over 8 weeks while History spans over 5. This is my first time taking college classes. Do you guys think a 4.0 is manageable or is this an overload?

thats a little intense… lol

I don’t know your intellectual capabilities, but I think it’s possible. Three intensive classes as such are going to require a relatively great deal of effort and discipline on your part. I’m sure your CC has tutoring sessions before or after class, so this may be useful for your calculus class (not sure about the others) regardless if you think you need it or not. Also, and I believe most importantly, read ahead in each of your classes so you are more than prepared for your in-class lessons and have much more thorough questions to ask had you not reviewed the material. Complete any extra credit assignments as well if they are given!

Best of luck!

Yes. This is an overload for your first college-level classes. It is the equivalent of 18 credits during a normal semester, and most students carry 12 in that time. Drop one of these classes so that you can focus better on the remaining two.

Absolutely doable. It might be a little tough for you in the beginning (considering that it’s your first college semester), but it really shouldn’t be too bad. Especially if you’re taking good professors. Just make sure to stay ahead of the schedule and pay attention to the due dates.

I’m currently at a Community College too, and I personally love summer classes! Last year, I took 9 credits (History, Government, and Computer) during the summer. No problem at all - I easily got a 4.0 GPA.

This year, I’m taking 17 credits (six classes) during the summer and so does my friend. Of course, this is much more challenging, but it’s okay if you have a lot of time. I’m already almost done with two of the six classes and everything seems to be going well. Five of my six classes are 6 weeks long. Only one class is 11 weeks long.

You’ll do good, as long as you put in the time. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your professors. Good luck!
