Summer Precolleges??? MICA vs.SVA

ive lurked around this forum for quite some time reading old threads about art summer precolleges

i am having trouble choosing an art program for the summer..i was only able to apply to mica, sva, and risd since i started my applications relatively late(barely met deadline for each one) and was not very well informed of precolleges in general...so far ive heard back from mica and sva, both accepted, and am still waiting on risd(which i have completely lost all hope for)

a little background info, im a high school sophomore looking to improve my technique/find inspiration/explore artistic careers blah blah typical wannabe artsy kid you get it. but my real dilemma is that, to put frankly, my family is kinda poor(but apparently not poor enough to deserve any significant aid...) and my parents are more or less unwilling to spend money on art school( curse the stubborn conservative asian mindset) so i applied to these programs with hopes of getting large scholarships...

ended up getting a somewhat decent chunk from mica(roughly 40%) but the remaining two grand is still kinda iffy.....saic in comparison was thoroughly disappointing, only gave 600, which was barely enough to cover housing let alone the hefty tuition...sorry if i sound bitter but its very frustrating to have art schools offer these "opportunities for everyone to experience art regardless of financial status" while facing the very real reality of not being able to afford art programs

i will try to ask/beg with no shame for more money later, whether or not they give further award(and even if they do i get the feeling it wouldnt be much...) i can attend at most one summer program without breaking the bank too much

so my final question to conclude this ranty post is: should i do saic or mica???

thanks beforehand for any and all opinions as they are much apppreciated

Here’s a little chunk of information that may help: My kid went to pre-college at MICA, and at the end of the summer was awarded a scholarship much larger than the pre-college bill, to be used if she got accepted to MICA for reals. And she did, and MICA is her top choice and she’s thrilled to be going there next fall.

Bottom line: thrifty parent discovers that pre-college was an excellent investment. :)

Where do you want to go to college? Do a pre-college program there.

thank you for the comments! i just got back from risd recently and got a very generous scholarship!!! i guess the lesson is to apply for things even if you dont think you have a chance, because i certainly thought i didnt. supplies will still be a bit expensive but im very grateful. cant wait for summer!
