Summer program 2016

My d is attending the 3-week camp this summer. Anyone else? Anyone have questions about the program??

@mom2MTgal, my D attended the junior high version of the camp last year and loved it. She just applied to the high school version (both the 2 and 3 week) for this summer, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed! I’ll post again when we find out if she’s in.

@muttsandMT My daughter is going to the Jr High camp this summer glad to hear your D liked it.

My daughter is going on her own… were the kids friendly? My daughter had a not so great experience at a different middle school program last year.

@KTVoice my daughter went on her own too (knew nobody), was the student who had come from the furthest away geographically speaking, and even arrived a day late due to a performance commitment – and yet the other students and the staff as well could not have been friendlier or more welcoming to her. This was also despite the fact that several students were returning campers and/or had done shows together elsewhere. My daughter said that everyone welcomed and included her with open arms, and that they became “like family” during those two weeks. I remember distinctly how much she and many of the other campers cried the day they went home. She has kept in touch with many of them via text and Instagram over the past year, too – and some will be returning this year, which she is thrilled about.

I know this is going to sound like a commercial for OCU – and I swear we have no affiliation with them – but our entire family fell in love with the school last summer. I was so incredibly impressed with the warmth and generosity of the director, the camp counselors, the teachers/director and staff, and with how much she learned and grew as a performer during those two weeks. We all agreed on the flight home that we’d be thrilled if she someday is lucky enough to be accepted to the BM MT program!

@muttsandMT Thank you so much for that! I had a great feeling from talking to JoBeth Moad and the other people when we registered her. I appreciate your experience… and hopefully my daughter will have a similar experience!!
Fingers crossed for your daughter in the HS program!

@mom2MTgal @KTVoice Oh wow oh wow – we just found out this morning that my D has been accepted to the 3 week High School camp!!! She is over the moon, and I am ecstatic for her! :slight_smile: Of course, I’ll miss her even more now that she’ll be gone for 3 weeks instead of 2, but she’s going to learn so much and have the time of her life!

@KTVoice, we know several kids who are going to the Jr high camp this summer. All are very sweet. :). Also, our experience has been that they do a great job of assigning roommates for those who are new to the program. I agree with @muttsandMT. The program was wonderful and we hope for many more years of training with OCU!

@muttsandMT, Yay!

Thanks @mom2MTgal and Congrats @muttsandMT

Hi all. We just got home from OCU yesterday… we spent a week in the midwest before traveling back to NC.

My daughter had an outstanding time. She loved the program and thought the other students were all very nice and friendly. She definitely made some great friends.

The director and staff all seemed fantastic as well. She is really glad she went.

They did Cinderella and she loved her part and had a blast.

The one thing that surprised us was that the camp focus was 100% on performance and rehearsal for the show. We thought there would be some classes like in the HS program. That said the show was outstanding, the work that went into was apparent.

I hope all the HS participants enjoyed their time as well.
