Summer Program for HS Freshman???

heyo -
my sister just finished her first semester of high school. She's looking for stuff to do this summer. One of the opportunities is COSMOS, at a UC. I think she wants a good one that will help her chances of getting into a good college but will also be uber fun. If she can't find one she will probably end up at theatre/drama camp.

after first semester: 4.0 GPA (UW), class president, dance/theatre, community service club. so i think her chances are pretty good wherever she wants to apply.

this reeks of a troll.

i suggest you look at stanfords summer programs

you reek of meanness. but thanks.

COSMOS is good. A couple of people I know who did COSMOS were accepted SCEA at Stanford this year.

One thing to keep in mind is that the rule of thumb with summer programs is that the best ones either cost nothing to you or even pay you. Often, they require a work permit, which, since you sister is a freshman, may be a tad bit hard to get.

Also, encourage your sister to do things she really enjoys, not things that will "obviously" help her get into college. I got an offer one year to research, cowrite a paper and be published in a respected paleontology journal, but since I'm not into ancient Indonesian bears, I turned it down for a lab assistant job in physical chemistry with no recognition, no pay and not much direct involvement with the research. I never regretted it.

ahahah.

your sister should do something she's interested in.

"this reeks of a troll."

Not many trolls have 1000+ posts..

"your sister should do something she's interested in."

yeah, she might go to theatre camp for like 2 weeks
