Summer Program!

Brown’s summer program mini courses look like a fun way to enjoy summer, but, as far as college admissions are concerned, do you think that one of these courses added to a resume would strengthen the list of activities? Or, would it not really matter as much as a regular, credit-bearing course at Brown? i’m just wondering because I believe I might apply for one of Brown’s mini courses, and I hope it can help at least a little in college admissions. If not, it’ll be a good experience I bet lol.

do you mean for this summer?

i highly doubt the mini courses are any boost in admissions. I took one, and I learned a lot (it was on forensic science) but in terms of tests and grading, it was a joke. The 7-week program has actual college classes, but I doubt that helps much too. These programs are mainly ways for the school to get more money, not a way to seperate qualified students from unqualified ones. Regardless I recommend the program, it really is like being at college (well except the workload, at least for me)

really? I know this isn't about brown- but I'm doing the Stanford high school summer college program this summer.... it seemed like regular college courses... (my friend took the same calculus class at our local community college last year)

well stanford's may be like brown's 7 week program. The 7 week program at brown is actual college classes with college workload. The minicourses at brown are a different story.
