rcmama-
Congratulations to your D!
How wonderful that she has two fantastic choices.

My son hasn't heard from Aspen yet....I can't believe that means good news.

I haven't heard yet either. It's impossible to know what it means when some people hear before others - I doubt it has anything to do with whether you're getting accepted or not.

It is probably by instrument.

I'm not sure which program she'll go to yet, but I think she is leaning to Tanglewood because she's been to Aspen for the previous 2 years. I think she received early word because of the fellowship award, which is making her think about it. As I said before, she was notified much later in the past. I'm sure it depends on the instrument and how quickly they reviewed the applications. It ain't over till it's over. I hope you all get some good news soon.

Has anyone applied for Yellow Barn this year? I'm just wondering when they send out their notifications.

Cosmos, historically I believe their actual deposit deadline has been around May 1; I think I recall notifications are late March/early April.

Son applied to Yellow Barn and has not heard anything. He didn't feel good about the audition, though, so he has essentially crossed it off the list. He will be really shocked if he gets in. This is the second year in a row that he has had a bad audition with them.

I'm really sorry to hear that, shennie.

How competitive is Yellow Barn? They took only one bass last year, so I'm not counting on it at all.

Actually, I am chatting with son right now. He said he has heard back and they did not accept him as he expected. They are an extremely competitive program, partly because they give previous students an opportunity to sign up. Then they audition for openings. Since it is a highly desirable program, lots of students go more than one year.

rcmama, Did your daughter get accepted as a TMC (Tanglewood Music Center) fellow? Congratulations. It's a GREAT program.

it's well beyond being a great program - it's probably the most astonishing summer program in the world. it's absolutely the hardest to get into, also. if you just look at the repertoire list of what their doing this year and who's conducting the orchestra you'll see why. what's more is that every TMC instrumental fellow gets to play a concert in the BSO. now THAT'S amazing.

Thanks for the congrats. I will pass them on, since I am only the Number One Cheerleader and Official Worrier. Yes, she was accepted as a TMC fellow and we're very proud of her. I'm sure it will be an amazing experience. But now I get to worry that she might be in over her head because she'll be so much younger and less experienced than the other fellows on her instrument. The Worry never ends....

Anyone try out for NYSSSA (New York State Summer School for the Arts)? Last year my daughter was an alternate and the letter was dated 3/6. We keep checking the mailbox, but nothing yet. Also waiting to hear from Eastern Music Festival and Brevard.

NYSSSA letters are coming out this Saturday I believe. Hopefully.

My daughter had her NYSSSA acceptance letter on Saturday, she attended last year, it was wonderful. The boys apparently heard 2 weeks earlier than the girls! good luck!

Does anyone know when the letters for the NSO/Kennedy Center program are coming out? Also, does anyone know if those will come by post or e-mail?

Cosmos,
According to the application, NSO/SMI notification is by March 21st. 10 more days. Previously they sent notification by snail mail.

S applied also, so we've got our fingers crossed too!

(For NYSSSA)
I think the orchestra program receives their letters at a later date than the choral program, but I'm not sure about this. I don't know anyone who auditioned for the orchestra program who received letters yet, including plenty of SOS-ers from last year. I just remember that last year I got my letter after coming home from a lesson on a Saturday.

Oh no! I'm going to be on spring break from March 19-30... If the letters come between the 19th and 21st I won't get it until I get back to Chicago!
