Are summer programs from universities/colleges credible? I mean, they usually cost upwards of $1000. Are the colleges just in it for the money? Do they accept anyone who can pay (like Envision does)?
I got accepted into the Adventures in Medicine and Science workshop at SLU. It is credible, right? I’d like to know before my family spends $1400 sending me there.
The question isn’t really one of “credibility” most of the time. It is whether you think you will (and then do) gain something from the experience. Is it a chance to get a closer look at science and medical careers? That could be valuable to you when deciding on a college or major. One of my kids attended an engineering program for about the same cost, and learned that she did NOT want to be an engineer. Better to find out in high school than later. Few programs “wow” admissions officers, so if you do a program, do it because it interests you and adds some kind of value for you.
thanks! that’s a really helpful way to look at it
