Yes, JoBeth Moad told me that they accepted 60 kids for this year's Vocal Arts Program at OCU. They typically take 30 (I believe their advance material mentioned 30)....but they had such a response that they decided to expand. She says they have re-organized so that there will be different levels of voice, acting and dance offered to better suite everyone's level and everyone will be involved in the show. My D and her friend will be attending as well....and looking forward to it.

noccadad, was your daughter at the classical music camp at ocu?

noccadad, looking at your post, and it's date, you must be talking about the classical camp. my d was there also. she just graduated and will be attending ocu this fall. did you attend the recital? my d's initials are lg and she did a classical aria. she would have been the short one in a black, one-shoulder dress in the recital.

thanks! I look fowards to meeting your D and her friend!

I attended OCU's summer program last year and it was a so fun and such a great experience, I'm sure you'll have a great time. While talking to some of the kids who did it last year, I did heard that there was supposed to be a large increse in the number of attendees to the program (last year there were only 29). This is due to the programs growing renound as one of the best pre-colleges programs around.

What I think that they intend to do is have the main show (footloose I think) with about 30 kids and then have another show, which would be a revue or cabaret, for the other 30 kids. I could be wrong but that's what I heard.

I hope that this information has been at all helpful to you. And I know you'll have an amazing 3 weeks!

Sunkissed - so glad to hear good things from last year!

Glad to hear of others going to OCU! Parents - at ending show, I'll wear my American flag lapel pin if I can remember it, so look for me! This is my identifying pin for fall and winter auditions this next year, also.

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that all students will be part of Footloose as one of 3 groups - teens, adults, and shadows. There will also be a cabaret performance. My son is looking forward to it and has 2 local friends (girls) who are also going. We don't know any of the other boys!

5 days till OCU (for those of us flying in)!!!! I can't wait I've even started laying out all my stuff because I desperatley want to start packing but I still need to use all of my things, I like organizing:) see you on the 10/11th!!

Razorback,
I did not attend but I can tell you that OCU is now one of the top choices on my D's list. It must really be a special place and she definitely increased her skills by attending this one week program. I understand it was the first year for this program. Congratulations to your daughter and you on establishing such a positive college placement she must have worked very hard over the years to get here and thus I think I know how hard you have worked! Where else did she audition? We would love to hear about some of her experiences and audition choices. My d will be auditioning on 11/19 at OKCU so even though she is away at Cap21 summer program right now, wife and I are getting nervous about a college match that we can afford.

noccadad, we did go to the recital. would be interested in knowing which girl was your daughter. maybe you could say what order she was in, in the recital, or what she was wearing? my d really enjoyed getting to know several of the girls. she is actually in the theatre program. she was not admitted to the mt program. she will probably audition again this fall. i've already got her booked for the 19th.

Wishing all of you headed to OCU-land a safe trip. You'll have a fantastic experience!

Thanks, ocuMTinfo, I'll tell my D!!

thanks! I'm so excited!

OCU Footloose update - I have great news from us moms who have been waiting on pins and needles to hear from our kids at the OCU summer program. Footloose auditions were very competitive. I hear (from moms of girls who call home!) that the talent at this camp is unbelievable. It took a whole day longer than planned to get the cast list, probably because of all the talent and the callbacks. There are either 12 or 13 boys, so, it is more boys than we thought. The kids are from all over the country. By the way, we met babygiraffeboots who has the biggest smile I've seen!

My son Eric is Willard! He barely had time to talk, but he called and said he is Willard, the part he wanted, and the "best" part in the show! He was very excited. Of course, we all know it is not the starring role, but it must be a funny role, and I was thrilled to hear him excited.

2DsnMT's very petite daughter with powerful voice is Rusty!

Best news of all - mtmommy's daughter is Ariel!!! The CC kids did well!

If others of you who post have related news, please let me know - Eric was in a huge hurry when he called. The only other one I got out of him was who is playing Ren, a nice boy we met, from Indiana, who is across the hall from Eric.

Hey - ocuMTinfo - they seem to be having a blast - I haven't heard from Eric otherwise at all!!!

I can't tell all of you enough how very incredible this program is. They get classes and lessons with all the same professors that they would have in college. I was also extremely impressed with everything Dr. H. had to tell us at orientation. I'll update you later, but it all seems great.

Wow...congrats to all the cc kids who did so well in OCU's casting of Footloose. Ericsmom, Willard is a great role, he gets to learn to dance! The Willard in my d's show is so charasmatic and funny! He does a great job! I am sure your son will too! Congrats too all!

Ericsmom...
Congrats to your son! SO SO glad he is enjoying himself...and what a great part. It seems CC kids are continuing the tradition at OCU...last year's summer Cinderella cast had CC kids as the Prince, Cinderella, and the Queen! Hope the camp is a great experience for Eric!

Wow!!! These CC kids represented on this forum did so well in casting. Congrats Ericsmom to your son about Willard...to get the part he wanted and likely fit best is wonderful! He learns to dance, how funny is that? Your son who CAN dance. He will shine in this role.

I have not heard from MTMommy but that is amazing...Ariel! OMG!

2DsnMT's D is Rusty...wow wow!

And to think they connected on here (or their mamas did). Sounds like it is gonna be a wonderful experience. All the best to them all.

I have always maintained that there is so much talent just on this forum alone....we could cast a great show with them all in it.

Happy for all of your exciting news!
Susan

Hey, Susan! I've been busy being happy for my D. Yeah, she's so EXCITED, but had no time to talk. She was loving it anyway there. She even loves the dorm room. She's in a room of 3 and said her shaer of the room is the same size as the lousy 2 person room she was in at UT Austin when she stayed there.

MTMommy..hey, did not know you were online...I sent you an email. Anyway, yippee again!

Hey, the room is unimportant, she is gonna have quite the experience!

Think of SDM, they have six girls in a room that looks like it might be meant for three!

Susan

Susan--I just sent you an email back! Yeah, I know those kids at SDM have a blast!

And, yes, YIPPEE!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes from everyone.

The moms of girls are hearing so much more than I am - I haven't heard a word about the room, the food, etc. I helped Eric get settled in his room for 2. It seemed small at first, but I was actually amazed at how much drawer, shelf, and closet space it had. The beds are also separated by a partition, so they have some privacy.

It really is great that we moms have made friends ahead of time. When I was introducing myself to the CC kids, Eric was totally embarrassed. I think they are now fast and good friends, but I had to get out of the way before that happened.

These girls who got the main roles are obviously quite incredible to beat out so many other talented girls for these parts! I believe these 2 girls can sing!!!!! We also know they can dance and act.

Susan, I'm sure that part is best for Eric! He loves being the comic relief in a show. What's funny is, his new focus in life is learning to dance better. He's coming along nicely! Also, his opposite Rusty is so tiny that she makes him look big (just teasing - only a couple or three inches difference in height). They'll make a cute couple, I think.
