My D is auditioning for OCU's programs the Monday after Thanksgiving (terrible timining, huh?). She is going for BOTH MT and the Art Song Institute as she sings both classical and MT, and is equally at home in both. Anyone know about their financial aid there? D is a very strong singer but we really need a program that will have a strong scholarship as, being a single mom, the $$ just aren't there. Any ideas folks?

Hi LulusMom,

We wish your D all the best on her audition! While I may not be the "objective" answer you're looking for, I can tell you that we have a very comprehensive financial aid & scholarships program for the OCU Summer Music Program. If your daughter demonstrates what we are looking for, we are happy to consider what could be offered. However, financial aid and scholarship offers won't be made till the first round of summer acceptances on January 15th, 2007.

The good things is that your D is auditioning early and will be in the first round of financial aid consideration. Early application is always good because we have started to receive many mailed submissions and just finished our first national summer auditions at OCU.

If you haven't already, you might want to check our website at:

D auditioned on Moday afternoon after and exhausting car trip returing home the day before. Her lesson that afternoon was a bit scary as she was tired, and looked and sounded it for that hour, but her audition went very well. The folks that were there from OCU were wonderful- so polite and friendly, putting everyone at ease. A number of kids had made the trip to audition for university admisssion so the tension level was high, but the school's repesentatives certainly matched all the superlatives that have been written here and on other sites and we have our fingers crossed (this really helped her narrow her college search even more) and hope to hear soon!

Hi LulusMom! I'm glad to hear that your OCU summer audition went well. The staff is so nice and helpful. When my daughter got sick during the program, they made sure she went to the doctor (and she didn't want to go!!) and got the medication she needed. It is certainly reassuring to know that your kids are in good hands at OCU.

In regards to the question by trill about the summer acceptance rate...I don't know first hand but we do know of a student that wasn't accepted last year. MY D believes she heard they received over 150 auditions, so with 40 accepted, that would mean they are selective.

My D is hoping to return this year since she had an unbelievable time last year. Maybe (if we're lucky) our daughters might meet!

MTd, which state are you guys from? It is great that your child can attend for two years in a row.

Last year was our D's first year at OCU's summer program. I agree with what everyone has said about the quality of the program and the outstanding strength of their faculty. She thoroughly enjoyed working with Dr. H and everyone else. They leveled the groups for dance by the auditions that took place the first evening. Mornings were filled with classes, afternoons with some outstanding master classes, and the rehearsals were in the evenings, after dinner. There seemed to be very little free time, which was fine with our D. Piano lessons and music theory class were probably the more challening parts of the days as she didn't have either prior to camp. She's now in both back home.

There appeared to be several kids who had been there multiple times, so "returnees" seem to be the norm. We live several states away and our D would love to go back again, whether this summer or next.

Hey everybody! I'm wondering who here has had experience with Center for Creative Youth as Wesleyan. I've heard of two great experiences, both in the musical theatre program, which is what I'll be auditioning for. I'm wondering what other people have thought, and if there are any negative aspects of the program, because I've heard all raves! :)

Thanks! :D

Has anyone heard what shows they are doing for the OCU junior high MT program? They are doing two jr. high sessions this year just like the two high school sessions.

Bumping for post 337 & 338 about Perry Mansfield PA Summer School...

does anybody know tuition for the walnut hill summer mt program? It says on brochure that tuition for it is on the site, but I can't find it at all. also, can you get scholarships for cap21? I wanted to go to CMU really badly, but its waaay to expensive for my fam., so hoping for lower end prices and scholarships. If you happen to know any intense, prep for college programs that are lower price range, that would be awesome!

Thought some of you might be interested in this:

Walnut Hill is in the same price range as other programs like Interlochen and CMU. The school uses its summer program to spot focused, talented kids for its high school program and need-based scholarships are possible during the school year, if that's an interest on your part. It's definitely a strong summer program; my S enjoyed it tremendously three summers ago and will graduate from Walnut Hill this spring!

Since so many of you MTers are also dancers, I wondered if you have had any experience with the Alvin Ailey Summer Dance intensive. My d (who has just begun the audition rounds) just got accepted and will need to make a relatively quick decision. Thanks for any info you maight have!

Jasmom, no personal experience here. However, I know three people who have done it and had very positive experiences. One is now attending Tisch for dance. I believe they were able to get housing through the program. The two local dancers were in high school when they did the program.

Congratulations to your daughter on the acceptance.

jasmom-
we don't have first hand experience as D is too young for housing but this program has been recommended to her at ballet instensives the last 2 summers. We will probably send her out there next year. There is a ballet discussion site that has had some reviews of Aileys program and a few members who are still active that may be able to fill you in more.
Here's the url for the ballet site:
http://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php

I hope this helps. If she goes I would love to hear about it.

Thank you both. My d is intrigued by the program. But, she's 16, so housing is a bit of a dilemma. Also, at 7 weeks, it's a long time to be in a program that doesn't fit. So we're searching for as much info as possible. Unfortunately a friend and fellow dancer auditioning with her made the first but not the second cut. Plus, my s, usually in NYC, doesn't yet know where he'll be for the summer. It won't be an easy decision.

Several dancers and one actor/theater guy from my D's hs (a public arts hs) attended the Ailey program last summer and raved about it. Is there an age cut off for housing? I ask because I am pretty sure that the actor who attended (a young man) is just 16 now, and though he may have turned 16 in the summer.

I believe the Summer Intensive offers summer dorms for participants ages 16 and over. The girls from here did that.
