Help me! possible future student.. hopefully

okay, so i have been looking at the almost HUNDREDS of musical theatre colleges in the u.s. veryyy intimidating :frowning: and for some reason i keep coming back to ocu, i am not sure why, but it may be because i live in texas and it just seems more close to home and comfortable to me… but there are SOO many colleges out there for the mt program! I do not know WHERE to start…

but i was just wondering about basic info about ocu… like theatre class sizes, voice training opportunities, how big the competition is, the environment and people, just anything information you have at all for this school, or any others included, that would be awesome.

thanks so much and i would GREATLY appreciate it if you could help me!! :]

I am only a parent, but.... You asked about voice training opportunities: I do know that every MT major takes private voice lessons at least once a week and has a master class with their vocal studio every week. If you are accepted in the MT program, voice training is a major part of it. You also have to be in a major ensemble (aka choir) every semester.

If you haven't visited the web site, I would suggest that that be the next thing you can do. The address is (I think) Oklahoma City University. Go to the Music School page and read up. It will tell you the expected classes for each major.

One of the most revealing things there are the ensemble newsletters. Band, choir, and Opera/MT. The Opera/MT newsletter has a letter from the director, information on the season, and audition information. It has a personality to it which will add to your impression - positive or negative or neutral.

If you have done all this already, then visit. Contact the Music School's student services office. I know many who have done this. It is a small campus. You can sit in on master classes and production rehearsals and get a feel for the place.

Hope this helps. I never write these things, but read them with great interests.

I am also a parent of an OCU student, good advice above. I think the thing that struck me regarding OCU was how complete the training is and how professional the faculty is. Also everyone we met in the faculty and administration was very friendly and helpful. I think the positive attitude of the school makes for a very pleasant college experience. Good Luck!

Grades/SAT scores needed?
