Good News on the West Coast! My daughter got her acceptance letter from Mpulse today…she is thrilled…

So glad the good news made it to the west coast for all of you waiting… so nice to know that our D’s will be getting to know eachother and be fast friends soon!!! Hey does anybody know for sure how many girls and boys MPulse takes? We heard 16 of each…32 was the max number of kids…is that what you guys have heard, too?!

Congrats again to all of you who have gotten accepted!!!

Hi Lesrenne:

I don’t really know how many they are taking…but the original info did say 30 kids total…i am sure that fluctuates up and down with the year.

mybwby:

Okay. Thanks. I just wanted to be sure I was not telling people the wrong info on numbers…So glad you had good news…I have been watching the postings…rooting for you! hate the wait…but thank god it was worth it, right!? …those restless nights, waiting for our kid’s fate…I will be sure to have my D look for yours at camp!

I have applied to CMU’s summer program. However, I applied for drama through the “summer programs for diversity.” Does anyone have a S or D who attended CMU’s program, and would know how the diversity program differs from the priced program?

i always thought the diversity programs were just a free way to attend the same (priced) Drama program? they have the same dates and same schedule sample and everything…

jypas91 - yep its just the same program as the full paying one, except it’s free (full scholarship)

Congrats to all who are accepted for summer programs!!!
Just got the letter today my D is waitlisted for MPulse.(accepted at OCU last week) Since she got accepted at Tisch Cap 21 a few weeks ago and that is her first choice she is planning to attend there. ANyone else going to Tisch this summer?

Hope everyone has a fun-filled and productive summer.

Congratulations to all who have been accepted to the summer programs! There are so many wonderful opportunities for our kiddos who LOVE to perform.

My D is going to Interlochen for Musical Theatre. She was also accepted to BTP…so she had to make a choice between the two.

She went to OCU last summer and loved it!

I was accepted to both summer programs I applied to (needed ones with FinAid) NHSI with MT ext and Syracuse…I am SO excited…but now I have a dillema…

Which one do I go to? Syracuse is college credit…the Northwesten is not I think, but its very intense and thats what I really want…I can get college credit in college
About how many people are in each program? I know 30 are in the MT extension for NHSI…but how many are in regular theatre arts for it?
If anyone cal tell me the numbers for NHSI and Syracuse that would be awesome :)

I also feel really guilty that I have to say no to one of them - they both offered me a lot - but I guess that just means that someone else will be able to get it, which is a win win situation for all :)

I don’t know anything about Syracuse’s summer program, but as a former cherub (many, many, many years ago) I can tell you that Northwestern’s program is awesome and getting in to the MT extension is highly selective and a real compliment. I do have students who have been in recent years and really loved it. Are you planning to apply to Northwestern for college? The few kids I know who recently did NHSI went on to Northwestern for Theater and both have been accepted into their MT program that you audition for after your Freshman year.

My son is leaving for the Northwestern summer program next week. Any advice on what to bring/what to leave home (other than the obvious stuff)? He’ll be flying there and has limited space. Thanks!

Wkdk, if your son has a Facebook account, have him look up the 2009 Cherubs group. A number of the kids who will be attending have introduced themselves, and former Cherubs (particularly the class of 2008) are answering questions such as the one you have posed.

I am 15 and leaving for the Broadway Theatre Project in a few days and am nervous/excited and unsure of what to expect. Do they actually work on the monologues/songs you bring (I have heard they don’t)? I am just looking for some information on what to expect. Thanks!

I saw on their website that Broadway Dance Center still has a few openings for their summer Musical Theatre Performance Project.

To drawmanqn1: I don’t know how to bump threads but I know there was an entire thread on BTP last summer. My D who had just turned 16 attended last summer and loved it. Please feel free to PM me with any questions. As for the songs and monologues, I believe you basically reaudition when you get there and are placed in classes and activities accordingly. Some of the voice teachers may identify you as someone they want to work with, for example. Good luck and have a great time!

Another great summer program, that i’ve attended, is Broadway Artists Alliance. It was an experience that I enjoyed very much! Everyone that attended was extremely professional and talented and the program enabled me to grow as a performer. I had the opportunity to study with current Broadway performers, casting directors, and agents.

Along with the one/two week summer intensive, they also have a weekend long winter intensive, and several One Day Master Classes throughout the year.

I auditioned for the current revival of Bye Bye Birdie on Broadway and made it through to the final callback. At every single one of my seven callbacks I knew at least one of the casting directors sitting behind the table through classes I attended at BAA.

If anyone has any questions, I would be more than willing to answer them!
Happy New Year to all!! :)

We’re considering summer programs for our youngest who is a sophomore in high school. I’ve explored many of the programs here, but see that many do not accept his age. We’re looking for a school environment, pre-college program, not necessarily in a big city area. We’re from NJ and a small town. He’s looking for as balanced as possible training in voice, dance, and acting. He has the least training in acting, the most in voice and it is his strength. I see that he would be eligible for OCU’s program, and that their scholarship offerings would help keep the expenses down if he were to receive one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We’ve been through the process of college admission for MT and theatre with his older brother and sister already, but neither attended a summer program. I just don’t want us to exclude any choices of schools less familiar to us, or those where there might be some changes in programs in recent years. Everyone here has always been very helpful here, so we certainly appreciate whatever thoughts you can provide.

Even though it is in center city Philadelphia and you indicated you were not necessarily looking for a “big city” environment, I highly recommend the University of the Arts summer program. My daughter attended the summer after her sophomore year of h.s. and it was a pivotal experience for her. I’ve posted about it extensively on the UArts sub-forum but in a nutshell, the training was excellent, the faculty consists of members of the BFA program faculty, there is a good balance of acting, voice and dance and the school is located in the heart of the business and theater district of of the city. There is a rich abundance of theater, music, historic and cultural venues literally within 5-15 minutes walking distance from the front door of the theater arts buildings and the dorms. And for parents who are concerned about safety, during the summer, the streets surrounding UArts are teeming with office workers during the day and students, young professionals, families and others of all ages enjoying all of the restaurants, cafes, social and cultural activities available on well lighted streets at night until 2 a.m. ; with the exercise of basic common sense, safety is not an issue if that was your concern about being in a city area.
