Any good summer programs for college freshman interested in pre-med. Student interested in taking classes to get ahead or solid internship. D goes to Ivy league and wondered if others out there are familiar with programs.

…best site(s) for info

Here’s a start:
[US NSF - REU - List Result](<a href=“Search Results for REU Sites | NSF - National Science Foundation”>REU Sites | NSF - National Science Foundation)
Also search that site for related majors such as chemistry or bio chem

If low income, first generation, or underrepresented:
[minority co-op/internships](http://people.rit.edu/gtfsbi/Symp/mcoop.htm)

[Summer Internships](http://www.gsas.harvard.edu/hils/summerinternships.html)

[The Leadership Alliance: Our Programs - Summer Research - View Research Sites](<a href=“Page Not Found | The Leadership Alliance”>Page Not Found | The Leadership Alliance)

Check your local state flagship too. Search their website by putting in search terms such as Biology Summer Research and then click on everything.

There is also nothing wrong with working a normal summer job and then volunteering and shadowing a lot.

The thing a lot of premeds do from my school is take orgo at Harvard over the summer, so that they can take it when it is their sole focus and while not trying to balance orgo work, lab, their other classes, sports/whatever. (Everyone does Harvard b/c they offer it over the summer and it goes well with Dartmouth’s schedule, what with our finals ending fairly late. And boston is nice) The general consensus is its easier to get a good grade if you do this, but that’s just what people say when they’re talking about going that route, I have no numbers or anything. Probably not a huge difference in actual grading, but when all you are doing is taking orgo, you are able to devote more time to the class and thus do better.

So if your daughter wants to get ahead in classes, its a good option. Otherwise…has she looked in her school’s med school or associated hospital? I know lots of people who get jobs/do research for a term that way.

^^Though, as you didn’t specify, if your daughter already goes to Harvard, she could take orgo this summer at her school with a lot of Dartmouth students who are pre med non-chem majors.

Thanks Green99 and Twomules… given her sudden interest in medicine (thought she would do engineering/environmental) trying to read more about the field.
