Summer Programs That Look Good on College Applications

Yeah, EPGY, I don’t think that they call it that anymore, though.

How hard are these to get into?

I know everybody keeps bringing up a lot of medical/science programs, but does anyone know of any business/math/technology ones that look good on college applications? I’m a junior in high school right now and can’t seem to find any that aren’t crazy prestigious

^Yeah I agree, does anyone know any economics programs that look good on college applications?

FTE Economics for Leaders is a good one… they accept about 1 in 5 people on average (it really depends on location though… Yale, Cornell, and the UChicago locations are among the more popular ones…locations like Hillsdale not so much). The FTE programs are also fairly reasonable in terms of price. Most of the cost is paid by the foundation so it is scholarship based (which looks awesome to college admissions officers). Also there is the LEAD Business program which is held at amazing colleges all over the country like UPenn and Northwestern (but the deadline has passed so this is a good one for future applicants next year). I have heard amazing things about these two! These two specifically relate to the business/economics field.

@mirmir123 Have you taken FTE Economics? I was looking at the site, but it seems very similar to AP Economics to me. Do you know if there’s a huge difference?

@Woandering
I have not taken it yet, but I was accepted this year to the UChicago campus. I know people that have done it before and they say that it is pretty similar to AP Economics. I have taken AP Economics also, and so I am assuming it will probably be a refresher of those concepts in AP Econ. The big difference, though, is at this program all of the activities will be team and leadership based so you will be learning the same concepts in a different way (well at least that is what my friends told me that went to this program). Hope what I said helped!

@mirmir123 the LEAD deadline already passed, but I’ll apply for FTE Economics. Thank you!

Hey guys, how do you know great summer programs that are near your location? :)

Have a general idea of your interests. Look at the colleges near you and see what colleges have a good ranking in that interest. Go to their websites.

^^The fact that a selective school offers classes in your interest does not mean that attending that program will look good on applications. I’m not sure what basis you have for your suggestion.

How about Garcia MRSEC @ stony brook university? What do you guys think?

Ok, so as a student trying keep my options open I applied to three summer programs. Of Course the names are listed above and I have interests in them all. I am bit on the ambitious side and primary chose to take part in these programs as a means of resume building but I DO have interests in them. Honesty I have no definitive idea to exactly what it is I want to major in but I do know that it will probably be in the sciences and engineering arena. I know, I know then why did I apply to business program? Well I do have aspirations of someday owning my place of employment and understand that the only way to really achieve financial; independence is through owning a business. However I digress and beg for advice to which program I should take part in. I honest have no idea to the exclusivity to any of these programs and would really like to know? Which summer program would look better on a resume? Should i definitely go for the program that I think my educational future is leaning towards? Has anyone taken part in any of these camps? If so what was your experience like ? What would college enjoy seeing? HELP

sincerely PenguinSauce

Don’t know if this has been added yet, but NSLI-Y!

how is that helpful?

hey guys is the Johns Hopkins Innovation and Engineering a good program?

Does anyone know if the Business Leadership Academy at Mercy College is prestigious and looks good on apps? I was the only one in my area accepted about many applicants so I know it is competitive. Thank you :)

summer programs for tissue engineering or biomolecular engineering or bio engineering not your classic engineering summer programs. Any ideas please reply. This is for next summer ofcourse .

@chillaxin since you said “Dont be afrind to apply even if you are a science type”, did it help you to be admitted to a selective colleges. where did you attend college, if you dont mind me asking. Thank you very much for your reply.

Wondering about Duke TiP Center. Maybe it’s not-so-prestigious…
