How competitive is the Boston University Research Internship in Science and Engineering?
On the website, it says it has a 15% acceptance rate. It seems quite expensive, though.
@topaz1116, Thank you! Ya, I was hoping that I could get financial aid.
Wow iām surprised no one mentioned the Umass Amherst Research Intensive (ā ā ā ā ā ) program. Just finished 6 weeks of research. It was amazing! Although relatively new, the work done at the program is definitely comparable to HSHSP, BU RISE, etcā¦
I found a website that shows a lot of selective programs. The first part of the page shows programs at MIT (since itās an MIT website) but if you scroll down you will find selective programs all over the nation for math and science! Hope this helps!

^^ Summer Science Program (SSP) and Simons Summer Research Fellowship are not on that list
@Falcon1 I am still confused as well why Simons isnāt on the MIT list, but if you look above SSP is listed as one of MITās own programs because they sponsor it along with Caltech.
Sorry, I missed the SSP listing. Simons is not on the list because probably in an early version of this page, it was listed under a small category that said something like regional programs. This was because originally Simons was only for local Long Island kids. Through the years, it became a national program and, while the regional program category was dropped, Simons was never moved to the national category alongside Garcia. If I can find the link to the page I am referring to, I will post it.
How good is the SSTP at UF? Has anyone even heard of it? Is the research output from it typically good?
Also, does anyone know what topics for research they have available?
EDIT: how does it compare with FSUās YSP, as well, along with other science programs that are generally considered prestigious?
I think most of these programs are known to admissions officers. If you arenāt talking about a program such as RSI, the name on the program is not as important as what you actually achieve at the program. It can be kind of hit or miss how good the research opportunity you land will be. After RSI, at some of the more well-known programs such as Clark or Simons there tends to be more of a uniformly high-level of research (but even at these places there can be clunkers). In general, aim for the most well-known programs because you have a better opportunity to do meaningful research but donāt do it because you think adcoms will be impressed by the name on the program. Also, you can find great research opportunities anywhere. I know an Intel STS finalist this year who worked with a local prof. at a small school.
@Rowyee1113 do you know how selective that program is? Also, what kind of research did you participate in during the program?
What is the website. I searched and I only found paid summer program
Anyone know anything not math related?? Preferably biology
@indiavenne there is a program called summer discovery, I did it last summer at UT Austin (not in biology). Iām pretty sure they offer a bio program at UPenn. Just go to summerdiscovery.com.
If I send an email of interest to a professor who is working on a different field than what I am already doing research on, will it sound like I am not committed to my interests? I want to explore diverse areas and am fairly interested in her topic

@athenanv13, The Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics is starting up this next summer, and may not be on all of the lists: http://ypsa.yale.edu
VERY interested in international relationsādoes anyone know any programs which focus on that and/or language immersion (preferably in the midwest)?
My daughter - a current high school junior - wants to attend an environmental science or environmental issues summer camp? Which ones are the best?
