Summer Programs vs Individual Research?

Hi everyone!

For a student graduating in 2013 (junior this year), is it better to join a summer program to conduct research for competitions like Intel or Siemens or to find a professor at a nearby college and perform an individual research project there (provided that a professor is willing to allow you to work in his lab)?

Thanks!

Both I think would look really good; I can’t answer which one is better, though.

Doesn’t matter. You get research done either way. (Keep in mind that these 6-week programs don’t necessarily get you an Intel or Siemens project.)
